Here is the first draft of the press release that I wrote myself using tips from Googles ‘how to write a press release
I have sent it over to be tweaked by Liz Lewis who works in PR so will be interesting to see how much it gets changed and this will also give me a clearer ideas of how to word certain things. OR it might be just right, so we’ll see. Have put myself forward to perform at Head Music in Bristol as I heard they we’re looking for live acts… could lead to good promotion and a contact to potentially distribute physical copies of my first single. In studio tomo with Tony to finish mixing and then mastering awaits. HERE is the ammended version: didn’t need much tweaking at all – go me!

Have written up a draft press release in preparation for forthcoming promotion as well as finalising details of the video shoot. Will post once things are finalised. Had a meeting with Liz Lewis who is in charge of PR for the Grand Pier and who has many local contacts that will be very useful. Photoshoot is on the cards very soon and I have an idea for the front cover of the single. Some location shots for the music video have been taken at Sweat FA which is a gym situated in W-s-M – see below
I like to regularly post links to other acts I enjoy listening to as a firm believer of karma… today I present Rams Pocket Radio who I saw on the BBC Introducing stage on Saturday. Their track 1 + 2 has been going through my head all day and I think you will like it too. Click the picture below to see their performance on the BBC Glastonbury website also you can hear the studio recording of 1 + 2 HERE

2 days sleep got me back to square one since the craziness of Glasto… had an amazing time, didn’t take many photos but there are a couple of vids that are worth a glimpse at. Highlights include meeting Ed Sheeran, doing sound for D/R/U/G/S on the BBC Introducing stage, watching Newton Faulkner, wandering around backstage of John Peel stage, seeing Ram’s Pocket Radio (I managed to get a free EP from them and love their track 1+2) Having my track (Secret) played over the PA at Park Stage and then BBC Introducing, watching the sun come up on Monday morning from the Stone Circle and watching Julie Daske at the Avalon Cafe. I handed my flyers to a few people throughout the weekend (Bimble Inn, Ed Sheeran, Production Manager of The Common, George from BBC Introducing) and helped out a few random people carrying heavy equipment which led to some nice conversations. I spent most of the time there on my own as it is a nightmare finding people and sticking with them when everyone wants to see different things but it worked out well as I got to do and see anything I wanted to. Getting home was a complete mission though taking 5 hrs just to get onto the main raod home!! ARRGH! all part of the experience I suppose.
PLAYING AT THE ELGIN ON 5th JULY in London (Nr Notting Hill) Hope you can make it

3:03am! what a day… had to depart from Glastonbury for a gig in Hertfordshire which was one hell of a mission. 3hrs there, setup, 1hr set of the best party covers I could think of, pack down, 3hr drive home followed by a clean up of the kittens latest massacre spree once I got home – errgh. Chilling out now to some Ashley Vaughan – My Little Eye. You can buy his debut album by clicking on the artwork below and he will be playing at The Elgin on the same night as me (5th July) so come watch.

I am sorting through all my guitar ideas I have been notating on guitar pro or on video to consolidate them all and give myself a definitive list of new original songs I can get cracking with soon. Not gonna be a short task I can tell you – will aim to narrow them down (perhaps by your vote) so I can concentrate on the best ideas first – so far isolated 26 ideas as well as the unfinished songs (Little Sun, These Few Days, Senses & Mr Self Doubt) now it’s just a case of getting my head down and writing melodies and lyrics to everything. I have said it before that I really miss the inspiration I seemed to have plenty of towards the end of 7 Blank Tiles; songs we’re coming thick and fast and I was happy with them. I think the problem over the past 2 years is being too anal about it all and not being 100% certain about what I wanted to convey in the new material. Once it returns I know I shall revel in it and I hope to present you all with something you will grow to love listening to. I don’t call a song finished until until I’m definite about it and in the case of Mr Self Doubt, which I began writing nearly 10 years ago, is still not quite there yet. It will happen when it happens I guess.
Thanks for reading and have a great weekend

Back from Glastonbury again today… drove back at about 4 in the morning to get to my nice comfortable bed. I have a few bits to do today before I head to Hertfordshire for a private gig (3hrs drive there and back!) at 5pm.. but once I get back again it’s off to the festival site for the 4th time in 2 weeks to actually get the fun started.
On the 22nd (Weds) I went to London with Matt Baker to play in front of some ‘blue chip’ companies such as SONY, Disney, BBC etc… in order to potentially get some corporate bookings with our acoustic act. We still dont have a name other than Matt & Ryan so any suggestions are welcome. A few other acts were there on the day and we played first followed by Heath who is an Elvis impersonator, a musical production medley and then a 70′s disco cover band called Lovetrain who were all amazing.
So yesterday was my 4th Festival shift and it’s slow work! got through it though and bumped into a musician who tells me he has 8 performances over the weekend. He’s obviously got it in the bag and is doing amazingly at the moment. Ed Sheeran. I also gave out a few business cards and coasters to The Bimble Inn and the production manager of The Common as well as a few people I got talking to throughout the day. My housemates works on John Peel so have a guest pass for that too. Here are a few pictures for ya
My ‘Blackbird’ video has been the highest rated video on Talentwatch for over a month now and has been highlighted by the site which you can see here CLICK THIS!!

It’s been a while since my last update as I have been away quite a lot and didn’t have much to report. I have a few things to mention now though so here is a summary of the past 10 days:
10th – had a band rehearsal in preparation for Fleece gig. Arranged shifts for Glastonbury festival
11th – gig at the Salthouse in Clevedon which went very well with dep bassist Aidan Corcoran. Had a few more pics sent in with the beer mats. Heard from Rhys Hayward with regards to starting work on the video for Secret (10th JULY)
13th – was supposed to meet up with Tony to continue work on mixing the tracks but he was unavailable again. Still trying to get more dates confirmed with him – This coming Monday and Tuesday will be the next sessions. Hosted open mic at Illusions Magic Bar
14th – Gig at the Fleece went well. Will have some audio and video for you to watch as soon as I have finished editing it all together… click HERE to hear the gig in its entirety
15th/16th – went to Glastonbury for my first 2 shifts. Not gonna lie, it was quite dull! got back on the Thursday for gig at The London Inn.
17th – Met up with Jay Furze to work on a our collaboration and had a solo gig at The Woodspring in the evening
18th – Received the audio from Fleece gig to start editing. Played at The Bottle Bar in the evening
19th – Went back to Glasto for my 3rd shift, finished at 3pm headed back to weston for private gig and then slept for 13 hours!
So today I am gonna start work on the live editing as well as promoting an upcoming gig in London…

Right! lots going on in my head and have plenty to update you about but I fear I may forget some points so I have gone ahead and taken a picture of my general ‘to do’ list and my plans for promoting the first single. This will hopefully show some of you how much work this whole self management takes and the things that must be considered. I do feel like I’m spinning plates right now so the main thing to get sorted and focus on is getting everything in the right order. Apart from the day to day stuff like learning songs for upcoming gigs, booking the car in for a fix and sorting my tax return I have spent the evening planning out some steps for promotion; I have looked at some websites for advice on this and I think I have a better idea of what to get stuck into.
First things to do are to get the single mixed and mastered etc… and get the video finished. In the meantime I need to think about image and a band photoshoot for forthcoming press releases and promotional materials such as merchandise. I have been considering a mass flyering mission posting door to door to let the residents of W-s-M (at the very least) know what I am up to and what they can do to add support to the cause; having seen how many single sales you need to get into the top 40 (2,500 apparently) I would like to start a campaign to get there… why the hell not eh?!
The rest of the spare space in my head is taken up with getting ready for Glastonbury, general admin (such as writing this blog) Making sure I have enough money to keep going and planning for the short-term future. All I am concerned about is making my investors proud and creating the album of a lifetime that myself and the rest of the band can be proud of. Thanks for reading
Also just remembered to add that I still have about 5 new songs that need to be finished – hoping to get the inspiration to complete them soon
One more thing: I have been thinking a lot about the impending skydive and despite the absolute terror and somewhat chilling realisations I keep coming back to the thought that I KNOW it will positively effect my outlook on life and hopefully remove, even if temporarily, my fear of mortality – this might help me function on a higher level and be more porductive and confident which can olny be a good thing. This reminds me that I need to get back to organising the rest of the volunteers (item #641814!!)

Since the beginning of June I have been gigging a lot and been away in the Chard area with some old friends for the weekend. I had Saturday night off for the first time in a long while which was great. Need to start thinking about the promotion of Secret now though; I would like to try and encourage people to buy the track within the space of the same week as to aim for a chart position somewhere… even if it’s 100!! Will look again as to how many sales that equates to and work towards it. Got to do things in order though so the music video takes priority for the moment.
We (the band) have worked out our setlist for the 14th June. I hope you can come along to see us at The Fleece in Bristol next Tuesday. One more rehearsal to do before it and a quick tidy up around the edges for For You, My Weakness, Look FWD but also some good progress has been made on Destiny and Sea Of Tranquility too so next studio session should see the remainder of the album recorded. Working on vocals for Feel Any Feeling tomorrow with Tony from 3pm so will keep you updated about that. Backing vocals will be recorded as possibly the very last step before mastering as I want to spend time getting them just right with Gavin Cox’s help.
I was recently asked to provide the guitar tab for my acoustic version of You’re The Voice (John Farnham 1986) which you can listen to here:
Sent off a cover of an Arctic Monkeys track to Radio 1 today as I heard they we’re looking to play them on the show tomorrow. Because I dont have a version of just myself performing one withoiut mistakes I sent off the version I did with Tom Sheppard so fingers crossed they might put it on the radio tomorrow?
Also got my Glastonbury ticket in the post so looking forward to that in a couple of weeks :/
You can hear the band rehearsals for For You & My Weakness too: I think we are all agreed that they are pretty much ready for the studio now
My Weakness (Rehearsal 020611)
If you are interested in checking out some more music from the talented people of Bristol then I recommend Gavin Thorpe’s new album Rollin’ On which is now available on iTunes. I bought it from my trusty iPhone in a matter of seconds… you can get MY acoustic album from there too incase you didn’t already have a copy
but to get Gavin’s just click the picture which will take you straight to iTunes.
